Yesterday was quite a good day, for a Monday. :) I went through my day doing fairly ordinary things, but enjoying them immensely. I don't know what it was about yesterday, but it was great. It could be that there was a lack of stressors in my life. My boss is out of town this week, and so I'm leisurely doing projects at work.
I came home and tried out a pizza sauce recipe for the homemade pepperoni and pineapple special I concocted. The recipe had a lot of spices in it, but also two tablespoons of honey, which I thought made it a bit too sweet. Brent liked it, but I'm not sure I've yet found the World's Best Pizza Sauce, as it was advertised.
Afterward dinner we were going to prime and paint our newly acquired closet doors (yes, the condo remodeling continues), but it circumstances led it to be a later hour than we expected and we decided not to start a project. Instead, we went to our local McDonald's and got a free RedBox. Brent gets free codes every Monday, and so we do this quite often for Monday nights.
We decided on a Jim Carrey movie entitled, "Yes Man." Have you heard of this? I thought it was going to be a similar movie to "Liar, Liar," where he has some sort of curse put upon him to always tell the truth. Instead, the premise was that Jim Carrey was a man who had endured a divorce and thus was scared to take any sort of risks. He was a junior loan officer at a bank who was constantly being passed over for promotions. He tried to avoid his friends' phone calls because he didn't want to go out. Instead, he wanted to stay at home and watch movies.
He attends a seminar where he makes a "covenant" to say yes to anything that life throws at him. At first it backfires amusingly, but one of my favorite parts of the movie has him by a corkboard with flyers all over it. He says things like, "Yes, I WOULD like to learn Korean." "Yes, I WOULD like to learn to play the guitar." "Yes, I WOULD like to learn to fly a plane," as he's pulling phone numbers off the papers. The movie goes through him learning all of these things, but the interesting thing is, they all become applicable to his life. He has opportunities to utilize these skills, and in a couple of instances, they change someone else's life.
I admittedly got the movie with low expectations (even though it was my pick). And there was a scene that we fast-forwarded through. However, it was far sweeter than I expected, and it really did make me think that I need to enjoy life more, and not let it pass me by. I mean, I don't feel like I have a huge problem with that, but Jim Carrey's character actively went out looking for new experiences and that's what I think I should do more. It was inspiring to me, in that respect.
So the next time you see me, feel free to ask me about any new projects. If I have none, feel free to shame me. :) Remind me of this post. :)
Jeff Vice hated this movie: http://www.deseretnews.com/movies/review/1,5208,485001080,00.html
But the Trib seems to be more along my opinion: http://www.film-finder.com/Review.asp?ID=62527

Hey!! We just got our computer back so I got to take a look at your blog finally! We watched that same movie this weekend. We thought it was okay too, but the part that you fast forwarded through has given us nightmares! Eek! :)
Yippee on getting your computer back! And I can see why that part would give you nightmares. I told Brent, "I do NOT want to see this! I think it will scar me." :)
