Yesterday was Administrative Professionals' Day. I have no idea why people call it that, because everyone knows that it's really Secretary's Day. :) The funny thing is, I ALWAYS forget about this particular event. I remember Boss' Day--it's sometime in October and my internal clock starts ticking when we get close. But I never remember Secretary's Day until someone sends out an email.
I was then surprised yesterday morning when I got an email informing me that we would be celebrating by going to lunch at a place of our choosing. Because it was such a beautiful day, we wanted someplace that was outside. We eventually opted for Tin Angel cafe, which is on 4th South and 4th West in SLC. I had previously been there and knew it was a little quirky (there's a good likelihood that your plates won't match) but fun. We arrived about 1:30, hoping to beat the lunch crowd. Unfortunately, as it is such a small restaurant, they told us that they couldn't seat us for a half-an-hour. As there was no place else to go, we mostly hung out in the sunshine. There was a scooter shop just east of the restaurant and we went in for a little bit to admire our favorite color of scooter (yesterday it was orange for me), but most of the time we were just outside talking. By the time they seated us, they showed us inside for our tables, which were close to each other, but not connected. But although we had originally asked for an outside table, we were all happy to come inside because:
1) It was now 2:00 and we wanted to eat.
2) We had been outside in the sun so much that we were all hot. :)
The lunch was good, but the service was a little slower than what the bosses were expecting, I think. We didn't get back to the office until a quarter to four, making it a two and a half hour lunch, for which I got paid. Now THAT is my idea of a good secretary's day! :)
