Last night I baby-sat my niece, of whom I'm attaching a picture, with her parents. I had quite a bit of fun. I came over to her house and we had tacos and yams, with chocolate-covered raisins for dessert. Rachael said that my niece could eat the raisins during dinner, and, smart tyke that she is, she kept saying, "Can I have some more chocolate covered raisins, PLEASE?" So polite! So cute! So easily manipulated is Auntie Becca! I gave her far too much, but that's what aunties are for, in my opinion.
After dinner, we quickly did a whirlwind of random toys, but settled on drawing with crayons. My activity was to wait patiently for my orders to draw, and start drawing as fast as I could to please the little general. She had me draw Mommy, herself with her favorite doll, me, a tree, and penguins. I am an excellent colorer, if I do say so myself. :)
When it came time for bed, I thought I had everything made. We had cleaned up the toys with Mary Poppins-like efficiency, got ready for bed, and I had just lit a candle when my niece asked me for the candle song. !!! I hadn't the foggiest idea what the candle song was, so I sang another song. Big mistake. That was her cue to wail and sob and cry for Mommy. I comforted her as best I could, but fortunately her parents came home not too much later and sang her the correct song.
I told Rachael that perhaps she should leave a copy of the candle song so future baby-sitters could observe the correct bedtime ritual. Her response was to email me a copy of the song, with a gentle hint to learn it for next time. :)
I also had a first last night. Brent texted me that we had to prepare Sacrament meeting talks on Sunday, with the topic being "strengthening families." While I've given talks in church before, I've never been informed through text messaging. :) I was amused at that.
